I first learned about the work of Drs' Deborah Khoshaba and Salvatore R. Maddi, while reading an article by the American Psychological Association, called Turning Lemons Into Lemonade: Hardiness Helps People Turn Stressful Situations

I was drawn to Maddi's work because of his interests in stress management and creativity.

This book is both a course and a workbook. It is a lifetime training course in hardiness. It presents hardiness as an integrated
approach to change, that involves creating the right attitude, finding ways to ensure your autonomy (personal control), and the will and effort to challenge oneself to grow from the experience, develop new skills, and create effective ways to alter their stressful circumstances.

It appears that the more freedom a person has to express themselves about things that are troubling to them, shape their own solutions, gain support from those who share their values, and those with moral courage, the more likely they are to succeed
and overcome adversity. This is particularly useful since many individuals respond with a mob mentality, rather than with individual reasoning, and perspicacity. I also love that this book places the right attitude as a key element to overcoming
adversity.

In many ways the concept of one's attitude demonstrated in this book, supported the values of writer, Victor E. Frankl, an Australian Neurologist, Psychiatrist, and Holocaust Survivor, who wrote in his book Man's Search For Meaning,"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

HardiTraining:Managing Stressful Change, provides readers all the tools to build both the right attitude, and an effective method
to make hardiness the central organ for their development. I am still going over the book and filling out information in various sections. I love that this book is a life long manual, a sort of companion throughout life, in many ways it is like having both an expert with you all the time, and a friend who encourages you from the inside out, all the while sharpening your participation
and insights into life, and yourself.

The kindle version of this causes way more stress than the book is prepared to help you manage. I returned it, which I rarely do because it was too frustrating to read. Not sure what I am going to do about a book for my class now, but I can't read this one. It is like someone copy and pasted the whole thing into a document and then submitted it. However, this book is set up in two columns and so quite often parts of paragraphs are inserted into other parts of the page. It is horrendous. There are no chapter headings and so you can't just jump to a chapter. I seriously can't believe anyone would expect $5 for this, let alone over $50. Please fix it so that we can have a viable alternative to paying full price for a physical copy of the book!
I just needed this book for a class, but it's an interesting book so far! Everything is as described and it's perfect! Thank you so much!
