"To put it simply, murderers MUST confess..." In past cases, forensic profiler Andrew Hodges decoded documents that pointed to the truth of the Nicole Simpson murder in Los Angeles, the Jon Benét Ramsey “kidnapping” case in Colorado, and the mysterious disappearance of Natalie Holloway in Aruba. His cutting-edge psycholinguistic method, “thoughtprint decoding,” shows how killers leave unique mental messages behind much like fingerprints. Now, in As Was Done Unto You, he turns his attention to a lengthy and revealing email written by murder suspect Amanda Knox, accused of killing her college roommate in Perugia, Italy, on November 1, 2007. In those five pages, Hodges—an experienced psychiatrist—found that Knox had unknowingly confessed to the brutal crime in great detail. Between the lines her email represented a secret narrative—the whole story. In this eye-opening study of one of the 21st century’s most controversial murder cases, Dr. Hodges cites passages from Amanda’s memoir, Waiting to Be Heard, to corroborate the confession found in the Nov. 4 email. He also delves into the shady backgrounds of Kercher’s killers, identifies Amanda as the ringleader of the “gang of three,” and places the brutal crime in the context of Halloween night in party-town Perugia. Readers will learn that Amanda is obsessed with vampirism, sex, drugs and rock’n’roll—but secretly driven by a shocking trauma. She does unto Meredith “as was done unto her.” Dr. Hodges’ ground-breaking investigative technique shows how criminal investigations will be conducted in the future as police detectives learn to utilize the most capable part of the human mind. This new way of profiling can lead investigators to perpetrators while explaining motives. By decoding psycholinguistic messages phrase by phrase, word by word, detectives can uncover the hidden agendas that motivate murderers. “Once again Dr. Hodges shows police investigators how a suspect's unconscious super intelligence communicates. He reveals a trove of information culled from Amanda Knox’s five-page email and her other crucial communications shortly after the crime. Knox's super-intel told us what really happened when Meredith Kercher was murdered, if only those interrogating her were trained in decoding her hidden confession.” —Charles Donald Byron, Special Agent, FBI (retired)

It would be nice if we lived in a world in which "thought prints" led us to the deeper truths , but we don't. It's a nice fantasy, but has no place in forensics and certainly no business pronouncing guilt on persons in a democracy. I think Dr. Hodges is pulling our leg.

I think it is important to add that Hodges is on target when he talks about Amanda's family dynamic, abandonment issues, etc. Where he seems to take a fatally wrong turning is in his outlandish theorizing about Amanda being nearly aborted - we have zero proof of such an assertion - and his grandiose "thought print" reading of her supposed "super intel" . As a non- scientific researcher he ought to have been far more modest. By over-reaching, he's done a disservice to the reader and to his own theory, to say nothing of Ms. Knox.

Fascinating and provocative read. The forensic profile Dr. Hodges constructs from looking at Amanda's own words and thoughts is amazing. Highly recommended!
Save your time and your money. There are dozens of books on this subject worth reading. This isn't one of them.
The parts where he sticks to facts is good. He brings up many plausible scenarios and solid intuitions, BUT, most of it read like one of Glenn Beck's whiteboard brainfarts connecting Obama to the Illuminati. Speculating on someones subconscious like this is as credible as consulting a Ouija Board. Also, Foxy Knoxy is guilty AF.
good read
Psychology is not much of a science. It gives us bromides, truisms, and 20-20 hindsight. The author of this book somehow got an MD though I noticed his career as a professor didn't get very far. Unfortunately most people are willing to believe total mumbo jumbo when the person speaking has a few letters after his name. The author claims to have invented a "thoughtprint" method by which he can "decode" the unconscious minds of criminals. He takes a stab at explaining it at the beginning and produces incoherent nonsense. He then launches into a narrative of how the murder of Meredith happened, with Amanda, Raffaele, and Rudy participating in an sadistic 'hazing' attack on Meredith that wasn't supposed to end in murder but did. His scenario goes way beyond the evidence though a number of commentators have proposed something similar. On a number of points his scenario is implausible. I get the feeling this guy is just going for the money. If you want a lurid read, you might like this but I lost confidence in the author after five or ten pages and found his pretensions insulting so I stopped reading.
This book is interesting entertainment, but pure fiction. The author jumps to ridiculous conclusions and reads motives where he wants them to be. In short, he has a creative imagination. He has no basis to write what he writes other than to make an interesting piece of fiction in order to sell books. There is no real scientific basis for this thesis, despite what this doctor alleges. It is hollow and lacks credibility, but those who like fiction, may enjoy it.
I purchased this book to understand if there is any validity to Dr. Hodges approach that could be useful to me in my work. However, I was somewhat doubtful of the value of this book after reading the introduction in which the author describes "thoughtprints". What is missing is the is tangible scientific basis for these "thoughtprints". Still, I kept an open mind and continued to read through to pages 42-44, the section on "Symbolic Language", in which the author analyzes a photograph of Amanda Knox and others. I could read no further after reading the author's conclusions about the underlying "meaning" of Ms. Knox's body language and dress. It is disturbing that a medical doctor could form such conclusions to the exclusion of all other possible meanings (or even consider that there is no particular meaning at all). The sexual connotations the doctor attaches to gestures and dress of Knox gave seem to say as much about the doctor as they do Ms. Knox. If there is any validity to Dr. Hodges approach, he needs to offer scientific evidence for it.
